Yao-Shan Fan, MD, PhD, Professor of Pathology and Genetics, Medical Director of clinical laboratories, and Director of Molecular Pathology Service at University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He graduated from Suzhou Medical College and received his PhD from Harbin Medical University. He completed postdoctoral fellowship in Roswell Park Cancer Institute, New York, and CCMG clinical fellowship at University of Alberta and McMaster University, Canada. He worked as Adjunct Professor at University of Toronto, Assistant and Associate Professor at the University of Western Ontario and Medical Director of cytogeneics labs in Ontario, served as Chair of the Genetics Committee of Laboratory Proficiency Testing Program in Canada, and member of the CCMG Cytogenetics Committee. He has worked at University of Miami as a full professor and medical faculty in the past 12 years and served as President of the Association of Chinese Geneticists in America. As one of the pioneers of FISH technology, he authored a book “Molecular Cytogenetics: Protocols and Applications” and authored/coauthored about 100 publications in scientific journals. His current research and services mainly focus on molecular diagnosis of cancer.
